On Friday, 5/7/93, the USEPA revoked five emergency exemptions it had granted previously and denied requests for another 15. This announcement was a result of the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals' interpretation of the Delaney clause of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA). This new policy is expected to affect only a small proportion of the approximately 300 emergency exemptions EPA allows each year. The FDA plans to allow foods from crops already treated with these revoked pesticides to remain in and/or enter commerce provided no additional applications of these pesticides are made to crops. The USEPA will expedite emergency requests for suitable substitute pesticides for those revoked or denied. Listed here are the Section 18 Emergency Exemptions revoked and denied on May 7, 1993:
