The intent of this network is to inform interested parties of recent or impending pesticide use cancellations, tolerance revocations, and other items of agricultural interest. To the best of our knowledge, the uses mentioned here, unless otherwise indicated, will not appear on any label registered by the USEPA after those uses are canceled. We recommend that you express any concerns or questions you have to the contact mentioned below or to your NAPIAP State Liaison Representative. If you wish to contact us at USDA, our phone number is 301-504-8846, our fax number is 301-504-8063, and our email address is ksmith@asrr.arsusda.gov.
The State of Delaware has petitioned the USEPA to allow workers to enter chlorothalonil-treated cantaloupe and squash fields to perform hand labor harvesting before expiration of the 48-hour restricted entry interval (REI). Delaware has requested that workers be able to perform hand labor harvesting 24-hours after application of this fungicide and has proposed several protective measures to mitigate risk to workers. The time period for this exception request is during the harvest season from July 1 through September 15, 1995. The EPA desires a full range of comments, especially on whether other states would need a comparable exception. Send written comments to the Public Response Branch of EPA, mentioning OPP-250106, by 7/12/95.

Rhone-Poulenc Ag Company is voluntarily canceling the last ethoprop products with use on domestic turfgrass -- BAHIAGRASS, BENTGRASS, BERMUDAGRASS, CENTIPEDEGRASS, FESCUE, KENTUCKY BLUEGRASS, RYEGRASS, ST. AUGUSTINEGRASS, and ZOYSIAGRASS -- due to the cost of reregistration. Products are being maintained for use of this nematicide-insecticide on golf course turf. Rhone-Poulenc will consider maintaining the continued domestic uses on turf grasses of ethoprop if another party is willing to develop the data required for reregistration. Otherwise, this cancellation will become final on 7/18/95. Dealers and users may distribute, sell, and use the existing stocks of the canceled ethoprop products until such stocks are depleted.

The USEPA has published a RED FACTS sheet which states that all registered uses of products containing the herbicide metolachlor are eligible for reregistration except for POTATOES, SOYBEANS, and PEANUTS. However, the problems with these excepted uses, which have been excepted due to the Delaney Clause, may be resolved and if so Ciba will continue to market products labeled with them for the forseeable future. Written comments, with reference to OPP-34076, should be sent to the Public Response Branch of EPA by 7/24/95.

R.E.D.; Metolachlor, EPA 738-R-95-006 April 1995
Abbott Laboratories plans to voluntarily cancel its ProShear product cotaining the plant growth regulator, N6-benzyladenine, for use on WHITE PINES due to reregistration concerns. This action becomes final on 7/18/95. The concern centers around an inert ingredient in their ProShear product. Abbott plans to reregister the same active ingredient without the offending inert under the same trade name by the end of the year. Existing stocks of the soon to be canceled pesticide may be distributed, sold, and used until they are exhausted.

Drexel Chemical Company plans to voluntarily delete from its labels the use of simazine on ASPARAGUS, ARTICHOKES, SUGARCANE, and NON-CROPLAND due to the cost of reregistration. We announced these deletions of this herbicide for Ciba-Geigy, the basic registrant, here on 4/15/92. The few remaining registrants for this use are expected to follow suit. Drexel is willing to consider maintaining these uses if another party is willing to develop the data required for reregistration. The deletion of these uses from Drexel products will become final on 6/27/95.
